I found a very comprehensive website on all imaginable facets of the people and culture of Oceania.  The bad news is, it's in French.  There is one English page which unfortunately does not provide much info but an English translation of the whole website is planned.  Since the info is such an attractive labor of love, I'm posting it, for all it's worth…  For me it's killing two birds with one stone:  I can educate myself on the above topic AND practice my French.

FYI, the Solomons are located in Oceania, in a subregion called Melanesia.
